ReminderâŠ
Mondays are for posts about The Dad Story, corporate escape, and social media how to.
Fridays are for posts about Channel 3 and entrepreneurship.
Happy Friday yâall. You did it. You made it through another week.
The obstacle is the way
I bought a bad ass $2500 gaming PC for Channel 3. I woke up last Sunday bright and early and ready to work (as entrepreneurs are wont to do), only to find the PC had died in its sleep. R.I.P. (Solid state drive is the culprit.) I was not pleased.
I canât afford to lose a day of progress. Even a Sunday. So I drove to Microcenter and waited for it to open. (I bought a $900 gaming laptop. This one, if youâre curious.)
Iâm a huge fan of stoicism as a life philosophy. Iâll write more about it later.
My favorite stoic writer is Ryan Holiday. One of his most popular books is The Obstacle is the Way.
âWhere the head goes, the body follows. Perception precedes action. Right action follows the right perspective.â
When things go wrong, and things WILL go wrong, are you flustered? Angry to the point of being unable to do what needs to be done?
Keep a pragmatic perspective. Nah, keep a POSITIVE perspective. Think: how can I use this unfortunate situation to my advantage?
âPerception precedes actions.â The right perspective literally makes good things happen.
âThe impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.â
âThe obstacle is the wayâ doesnât just say âdonât let a bad situation bring you down,â it says âLove everything that happens. Take advantage of the obstacle.â
How can you take a bad thing that has happened, leverage it so youâre better off with it than you wouldâve been without it?
While I was waiting in the parking lot for the computer store to open, I scheduled a bunch of overdue meetings. If I wasnât coding, Iâd progress on equally important fronts.
Some of the people I met with this week:
My good friend Ally Probst! This wasnât business. Just a much needed catch up. Therapy through friendship. Treat yo self.
Jackie Reau. President of Cincinnati Fear. Did you know Cincinnati has a professional esports team? How cool is that? And how freakin cool is the team name âCincinnati Fearâ?
Andy Brownfield. Journalist (and gamer). Press on Channel 3 coming soon? Perhaps.
Brock Lusch. Founder of Cincinnati Dads Group and all around good dude. We got the best burgers in the Nati. Dads unite!
Mark Borison. Cincinnati celebrity, actor/host/producer of the Jungle Jims podcast. And gamer! Can he beat me in Mario Kart during a live broadcast? Maybe weâll find outâŠ
Chris Postell. BizDev at Game Arena and UC guy (like me). Bearcat gamer entrepreneurs unite, as well!
A potential developer who may be helping with some standalone features. đ This is HUGE. Would be first person (other than me) to touch the Channel 3 code.
Thanks for dying, PC. The obstacle is the way.
Did a couple of photoshoots
For a merch photoshoot, I put out two folding tables, lifted my TV onto them so it would be higher, and stood in front of the TV to get a video game backdrop. MacGyver-style photography.
And then did an awkward photoshoot for press, because the only other headshots I have contain no less than 8 The Dad logos.
Ohh hey. I didnât see you there. đ€Ș
Season 1 Week 3
I look forward to Friday nights, when we run tournaments in Mario Kart, Fortnite, and Rocket League.
The lovely and talented El Rey will be joining me on the casters desk tonight. Tune in at twitch.tv/channel3gg.
Channel 3 post of the week
This week we blew past our 10,000th post on Channel 3! Iâm stunned. Amazing. The Channel 3 alpha user base is incredible. I love you all.
Hereâs my favorite post from this week. For context: This XP chest appears each day. You click it to earn your daily XP. It can be 5, 10, 50, 100, or, very rarely, 200.
Channel 3 users make these inside joke memes and itâs my favorite thing ever. This was made by Dan Tucker, Channel 3 Meme God. (He also manages our game and system libraries. 1,425 games and counting! Are you freakin kidding me?!)
