Iām so busy.
Crowd: How busy are you?
Iām so busy that I recycled Lauraās Instagram post. š¬š¬š¬
We must find productivity efficiencies in this economy!
Iām so busy that my daughter said I donāt spend as much time with her these days. I told her I just need to get Channel 3 going and things will be calmer. She responded, āā«Cats in the cradle and the silver spoonā¦ā«ā Seriously.
But heyyyy, life is good. What a weekend. And Iām more excited about Channel 3 than ever, and thatās saying a lot.
Taking a pause from The Dad Story this week to talk more about Channel 3ā¦
Channel 3 by the numbers
153 gamers logged in.
642 games are in the platform, ready for review and rating, from Oregon Trail to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
1,446 ratings/reviews submitted. Most rated game? Mario Kart 8 with 52 ratings, all perfect 5 stars. Rocket League also has 52 ratings, 4.8 average.
1,609 total posts, from reviews to memes to clips to Quest(ion)s. (Such as: Which Super Smash character would you most like to LITERALLY fight IN REAL LIFE? I gotta go with Olimar.)
And get thisā¦. 10,961 notifications! Itās a very active platform. š
Gamifying Gaming
One of the leap of faith assumptions of Channel 3 is gamers will enjoy the gamification of gaming. When you rate a game, you get XP. When you review a game, you get even more XP. When you get 1k XP, you level up and unlock rewards. This is not a foreign concept to gamers. In fact, itās subconsciously expected. Itās how games work.
Out of those 153 gamers who have logged in, 122 have earned XP. Average XP earned so far is 1,167. I have 9,903, no big deal. But super user and Channel 3 co-admin Dan Tucker has 18,300! He has reviewed over 150 games.
Gamifying a platform like this is a GAME CHANGER. Pun very much intended. The gamification is a sticky factor, reminding users to come back. Itās an engagement factor, leading to activity in the platform, which makes it more entertaining for everyone. But it can also be used to encourage positive and inclusive behavior.
For example:
Double XP for liking someone elseās post. The results of this lil experiment have been hilariously wholesome. Iāve never seen anything like it. Oh and Channel 3 users have memes of course.
āSeason 1ā starts Friday 7/1
Channel 3 is a social network for gamers. But that is the FOUNDATION. The mission is to make gaming (even more) fun, positive, and social for gamers of ALL SKILL LEVELS with community, content, and events.
Events are essential. And they start Friday 7/1 with a Season 1 launch event.
I will run a single round of private lobby Fortnite, an 8 race Mario Kart tournament, and a 1s Rocket League tournament. Winners, worst losers, and all participants will get, you guessed it, XP. (Want to join us? You have to be in Channel 3 to get the join codes/instructions. Email me, joel@channel3.gg.)
Iām expecting a very small turnout for this first event, and thatās fine; weāre learninā! (Also, better odds of winning prizes for the early adopters š.)
We will hold weekly events throughout Season 1, which ends on 10/1, when Season 2 begins.
Alright, back to itā¦
Thereās so much to be done. But this post alone keeps me going. Weāre onto something!
Want to see what Channel 3 is all about? Iām still accepting alpha users who will be positive, welcoming, active, and willing to provide feedback. Email me at joel@channel3.gg. Please include:
