It is possible to find a job you love
For those who ask themselves “Am I depressed because I hate my job or do I hate my job because I am depressed?”
Woke up this morning, spent some time with my son, and commuted 5 feet to my home office. Opened the windows to let the warm spring air in. Poured a cup of coffee, cranked up the music of my choice, and got to work on Channel 3, a project I love with all of my heart.
I do not take it for granted.
Right now I feel overwhelmed with gratitude that this is my work life.
This isn’t a brag post. Startup life isn’t for everyone. I work around the clock and I’ve yet to earn a dollar. (Still losing money, in fact.)
But I ADORE it. I feel so lucky to be able to pursue this dream.
In my corporate days when I felt disillusioned, I’d sometimes ask myself with intense urgency, “Am I depressed because I hate my job or do I hate my job because I am depressed?”
I felt it wasn’t possible to find a job I loved. I’d ask people, “Do you love your job?” They’d almost always say no, often laughing first. I’d desperately follow up, “Well do you know ANYONE who loves their job?”
Right now, I love my job. It’s possible.
I feel obligated to share that for anyone out there who may be struggling. I’m not saying you need to go code a social platform for gamers. (Please don’t actually; there’s already enough competition. 🤣)
Everyone’s professional fulfillment is unique. Keep trying new things, keep exploring.
